GUILLOTINE – A SLAUGHTER DEVICE!
Have you ever thought how criminals are punished in old days? Whether they are confronted by a systematic police or court system or they are given capital punishment? In old days, a king generally used to give death penalty to those person who are convicted in severe crimes.
In past times we have heard many ways of giving capital punishment to the criminals. Here comes the word ‘GUILLOTINE’.

The term 'Guillotine' became famous during the time of French Revolution. It consist of two poles and a blade with which a person is beheaded. This device was invented by Joseph-Ignace Guillotine. He was the first person who suggests to the National Assembly in France that decapitation should be the only way of capital punishment and hence Guillotine is constructed or designed by him. And then Guillotine became the official method of execution in France.

Louis Collenot d'Angremont was the first person who was guillotined on 21st August 1972. After that about 17,000 peoples, which includes the former king Louis XVI and his wife Queen Marie Antoinette were guillotined during the Reign of Terror. The last three persons who were guillotinings in France before its abolition were Christian Ranucci (on 28 July 1976) in Marseille, Jérôme Carrein(on 23 June 1977) in Douai and Hamida Djandoubi (on 10 September 1977) in Marseille.
