Hill-like Heels: How High Are Your Stilettos?
If you are one of those fabulous women who can rock a 6-inch stiletto, and walk back and forth without bumping into random strangers, or falling face down and hitting the edge of the pavement, with those front teeth intact, then you are probably the goddess of high heels. In early European societies, high heels were considered a status symbol, with even prescribed heights for commoners and the noblemen or noblewomen. Now, it's just a matter of courage and definitely not for the faint of heart, or those eternally clumsy folks. But how high can be those heels? You'll find out soon enough.
The highest heels are actually closer to home. Back in 2004, a pair of 20 inch heels made it to the Guinness Book of World Records, and you will be surprised to know that the designer behind those heels was Shillong guy, James Syiemiong! If you think that's outrageous, you are probably not acquainted with 'mother monster'. Well, Lady Gaga once wore a 24-inch pair of shoes at the CFDA Awards in 2011! What next? Stilts? I don't know about stilts, but in 2014, Jill Martin and Kenneth Cole designed the largest shoe with the highest heel. No, it was not a meagre 25 or 30-inch. The giant shoe had heels which were 6 feet 1 inch high! But it is definitely not something you would wear to a birthday party, or even to the Oscars, unless you are a giant, of course. Otherwise, you can just live inside the shoe, like the old woman from the nursery rhyme!
So, ladies and gents, you can go for the 2-inch platform shoes, or those skyhighs, we won't judge you. Or you can wear flip-flops for all we care. But if you feel like you are at the bottom of the high-heel food chain, and want to crawl your way up to the top, then go for those heels, or stilts; whatever suits you!
